According to reports from various local news sites, two retirees were mistakenly flown to the wrong island by the UK-based airline Jet2. Despite having their tickets checked multiple times, 71-year-old Wendy Russell and 69-year-old Linda Trestrail, who intended to travel from Bristol Airport to the Spanish island of Mallorca, found themselves landing on the neighboring island of Menorca.
The error became apparent only when the pilot announced their arrival in Menorca. Linda Trestrail expressed her surprise, stating, “You hear of bags going on the wrong flights but not people. You get compensated if you get delayed or lose luggage — but they lost us, not the bloody baggage.”
The women claimed that their tickets were scrutinized five times, including at the gate desk and by a flight attendant on board, who ensured they were in the correct seats but failed to notice the incorrect destination.
Upon reaching Menorca Airport, they discovered that their checked luggage had been sent to Mallorca. Jet2 issued an apology to the two women in a statement to Business Insider, attributing the incident to a “extremely isolated” occurrence. The airline explained that a third-party special assistance provider at the airport was responsible for directing the customers to the wrong aircraft. Additionally, they acknowledged that the incorrect destination on the boarding passes was not identified due to human error, assuring that despite the lack of a security risk, they had promptly investigated the matter.
