Elon Musk, the owner of X, is not one to avoid confrontation, and he has responded to allegations of inadequate payment for creators on the rebranded Twitter. In reply to a post by DogeDesigner, an X user, who stated that X paid over 80,000 creators in less than a year through the ads revenue sharing program and that more creators are joining the X community, Musk assured that creator rewards would see a significant increase this year.
While this exchange may seem unremarkable, it gains significance when considering a prior incident in December involving Musk and the renowned YouTuber MrBeast, boasting an impressive 229 million subscribers. MrBeast had urged people to watch his latest video on X, to which DogeDesigner suggested Musk upload on the platform as well. Musk responded with a simple “Yeah,” prompting MrBeast to assert that even if his videos received a billion views on X, it wouldn’t cover a fraction of their production costs, which run into the millions.
Thus, Musk’s recent commitment to a substantial increase in creator rewards for the year might be seen as a response to MrBeast, a highly influential figure as the most-subscribed individual on YouTube. MrBeast also expressed interest in experimenting with content once monetization on X gains momentum. If indeed there are positive changes for creators on X, it could potentially lead to more of MrBeast’s elaborate videos being featured on Musk’s platform.
MrBeast is renowned for his high-production-value videos, featuring daring challenges like spending a week in solitary confinement and being buried alive for 50 hours, as well as extravagant games with substantial prizes, such as ‘Last to leave circle wins $500,000’ and ‘Extreme $1,000,000 hide and seek.’
