Lisa Bonet has officially filed for divorce from Jason Momoa, two years after publicly announcing their separation. According to court documents obtained by People, the 56-year-old submitted the dissolution of marriage request on January 8, 2023, citing irreconcilable differences. The listed date of their separation was October 7, 2020. The couple had surprised the public with their separation in a joint statement issued in January 2022, expressing the impact of transformative times on their family.
In the divorce filing, Bonet reportedly sought joint child custody and requested no spousal support for either party. Jason Momoa, the 44-year-old Aquaman star, and Bonet share two children, 16-year-old daughter Lola and 15-year-old son Nakoa-Wolf.
The couple’s relationship began in 2005 when they were introduced by friends at a jazz club. Recalling their first date on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Momoa mentioned the serendipity of the moment and how he had dreaded his hair to match Bonet’s. They welcomed their first child, daughter Lola Iolani, in 2007, and their second child, son Nakoa-Wolf, in 2008. The couple secretly married in 2017 after 12 years together.
Despite their separation, Momoa expressed admiration for Bonet’s motherhood skills in a 2017 interview with People. The couple’s announcement of separation in 2022 led to speculation about a possible reconciliation when Momoa attended The Batman premiere the following month in support of Zoë Kravitz, Bonet’s daughter with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz. Momoa clarified during a red-carpet interview that they were not back together but emphasized their family bond and co-parenting.
