Viewers of Netflix are expressing deep disturbance following their viewing of a recently released docuseries delving into the unsettling world of a controversial cult.

Netflix is renowned for its captivating true crime and unconventional documentary series, and its latest offering has left fans in awe. This new French-language series, which premiered on the platform this week, follows the journey of former sports journalist Claude Vorilhon.

In December 1973, Vorilhon, an avid automotive enthusiast and magazine owner, made headlines by claiming to have been visited by an extraterrestrial being. He subsequently abandoned his career to fulfill what he asserted were the demands of these visitors.

Identifying himself as Raël, Vorilhon asserted that he had been chosen by the alien race, known as the Elohim, to convey a message to humanity. The message was straightforward: construct an embassy on neutral ground to facilitate the Elohim’s interactions with Earth.

Two years later, Raël claimed to have been contacted by the Elohim again. However, this time, he alleged to have been abducted and introduced to figures such as Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and Buddha. He further asserted that his “biological father” was an alien named Yahweh, subsequently founding a controversial cult that attracted thousands of followers.

This real-life saga is undeniably jaw-dropping, isn’t it? If you’re intrigued by this narrative, Netflix has released a new docuseries titled “Raël: The Alien Prophet” delving into the subject matter.

Raël’s alternative religion, known as the International Raëlian Movement (IRM) or Raëlian Church, boasts thousands of adherents. The series features interviews with former members who offer insights into what they allege was happening behind the scenes.

According to these ex-followers, Raël turned some women into “sex slaves” and encouraged sexual activities in the cult’s version of the “Garden of Eden.” Episode three of the documentary explores Raël’s theory that humanity was created in a laboratory. Titled “The American Dream,” this episode delves into the cult’s advocacy for human cloning and the rise of biochemist Brigitte Boisselier within the religion.

Boisselier claims in the episode that the first cloned human, named “Eve,” was born in the early 2000s in a undisclosed location, although no evidence of this exists.

The four-part docuseries premiered on Netflix on February 7, 2024, and has already attracted numerous viewers intrigued by its exploration of aliens, sex cults, and cloning.

After watching the series, one Netflix subscriber took to social media to express their astonishment, describing it as a departure from typical cult documentaries. Another viewer noted the unsettling transformation of the narrative from a seemingly innocuous story to one fraught with psychological manipulation, sectarianism, and sexual exploitation.
