Trailer for ‘Abigail’: The creators of ‘Scream’ venture into original horror featuring Angus Cloud, Melissa Barrera, and a child vampire.

Universal Pictures has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming horror movie “Abigail,” slated for release on April 19.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence, the duo behind recent horror hits such as “Scream” (2022), “Scream VI” (2023), and “Ready or Not” (2019), “Abigail” introduces a chilling narrative. The story revolves around a group of kidnappers who find themselves in a perilous situation when their young captive, a girl named Abigail, turns out to be a vampire.

The official logline for the film states, “Children can be such monsters. After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.”

The suspenseful trailer depicts the captors grappling with the challenge of dealing with the young vampire. Kathryn Newton’s character inquires, “What are we talking? Like an Ann Rice or a ‘True Blood’? You know, ‘Twilight’?”

The ensemble cast includes Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Kathryn Newton, the late Angus Cloud in one of his final performances, William Catlett, and Giancarlo Esposito. Alisha Weir stars as the titular character, Abigail.

Produced by William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt for Project X Entertainment, with additional production by Tripp Vinson and Chad Vilella of Radio Silence, “Abigail” also features Ron Lynch and Macdara Kelleher as executive producers. The film marks one of Angus Cloud’s last on-screen appearances following his passing in July 2023 at the age of 25.
