Milly Alcock won’t return to “House of the Dragon” Season 2 due to potential “Supergirl” role

Milly Alcock made her debut in the romantic comedy TV series Wonderland before landing her breakthrough role in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. This series, based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, is set nearly two centuries before the Emmy-winning drama series. Initially portraying young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Alcock later passed on the role to Emma D’Arcy in the first season.

Alcock received critical acclaim for her performance, standing out in the series. Despite fans’ anticipation of her return in the upcoming season, the actress has denied any such possibility.

Milly Alcock, acclaimed for her portrayal of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO drama House of the Dragon, received widespread recognition. Her exceptional performance even garnered her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

As the series gears up for its second season, rumors have circulated that the 23-year-old Australian actress might reprise her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen. Speculation suggests that flashback scenes could feature a young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the show.

However, Alcock has firmly dismissed these claims, stating, “No. It’s done,” according to Deadline. While acknowledging the impact of the series on her life and career, she declared that her journey with the HBO drama has concluded.

Alcock expressed gratitude for the opportunities the series provided her as an actress, enabling her to pursue fulfilling endeavors. Reflecting on the transformative experience, she remarked, “It changed my life very quickly, and it will never be the same again.” Additionally, she is reportedly in contention for a superhero role in James Gunn’s DCU.

Milly Alcock, along with Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, is being considered for the role of Supergirl in James Gunn’s DCU, as reported by Deadline. Screen tests for the lead role in the DCU film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, are expected to occur this month.

The DC head is reportedly overseeing the casting process. Additionally, Kara Zor-El is expected to make her DCU debut in a cameo role in one of the earlier projects, potentially Superman: Legacy, part of the first chapter of DC Universe, Gods & Monsters.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will adapt Tom King’s graphic novel of the same name, with the search for a director reportedly underway. In addition to Supergirl, Alcock has garnered attention as a fan favorite for the role of Spider-Gwen in a live-action Marvel project.

House of the Dragon is available for streaming on Max.
