Google is discontinuing websites created using Business Profiles.

Businesses seeking to uphold their online presence will be required to reconstruct their websites using an alternative platform.

Websites crafted through Google Business Profiles are scheduled to be deactivated in March.

During the interim until June 10, customers attempting to access your website will be automatically redirected to your Business Profile. After this date, visitors will encounter a “page not found” error, as announced by Google.

Significance: Businesses aiming to retain their dedicated websites must develop a new site using alternative tools. It is imperative to update their Business Profile with the new site address before the deadline to facilitate a seamless transition.

Options for Alternatives: Google recommends utilizing the following platforms to create a new business website:

  • Wix
  • Squarespace
  • GoDaddy
  • Google Sites
  • Shopify
  • WordPress

Impact on Ad Campaigns: If your Ads campaign is linked to a website from Google Business Profile, you must either change the link before March 1 to keep your ads running or opt to pause your campaigns.

Third-Party Domains: For those who have established a custom domain to direct traffic to their Google Business Profile website, visitors to this domain will be redirected to the Business Profile until June 10. To manage this transition, log in to your hosting company account and choose the “Redirect” option or a similar feature to reroute your third-party domain to a different website before the specified date.

Google’s Communication: According to a spokesperson from Google, websites created with Google Business Profiles are basic websites powered by the information on the associated Business Profile. Domains ending with business.site and negocio.site will be removed from the website field on Business Profiles in March, and businesses are advised to update their Google Business Profiles to point to a new website.
